2024 Events on the Farm

March 16, 11:00-1:00 - Mycofiltration Session: Fungi & Water
Nature already provides solutions for our water in healthy riparian example areas, and in this mycofiltration activity, we will attempt to replicate this layered functionality to clean our water and nourish the landscape. In this hands-on session, participants will get to learn about fungi, their natural roles as bioremediators, and help create a simple biological filter with found wood, native plants, and fungi to hold it all together. Through this natural, native plant and fungi oriented, living, filtration system, we are able to reclaim nutrients from our waters, remove E. coli and fecal coliforms, adsorb toxins, and restore the usefulness of polluted or waste water streams passively for downstream success. Come have fun with fungi at Mother Earth Farms!
Location: Mother Earth Farm, 4420 Warren Road, Indiana, PA
Cost: Free to anyone that needs it. Everyone welcome.
$15 suggested donation or purchase a mushroom grow kit ($25) to encourage Erik to share more!

We are partnering this event with Free the Fungi Mushroom Company founder Erik Hrabovsky who is an amateur (amor= to love!) mycologist, pursuing underground fungal-forest relations as a lifetime of devotion. Erik’s research passion in keeping and promoting forest led them to establishing the Free the Fungi Mushroom Company, which practices gourmet mushroom production, mycoremediation, and native fungi education to save our worlds.
Erik is a biologist and ecological activist whom studied natural building, permaculture, natural systems, native plants and the inter-relations of living systems for decades and brings a wholistic perspective to gardens, farms, and ecosystems across the continent. Erik loves old-growth forests, carrying habitat restoration, forest gardening techniques, water health remedies, people/nature fit concepts, and the reintroduction of old-growth conditions to landscapes far and wide.
