Pasture raised poultry, pork & eggs

Pasture raised poultry, pork and eggs

Mother Earth Farm PA raises small flocks of chickens and turkeys, selling chicken eggs, chicken breasts, leg quarters (leg and thigh), wings, whole chickens and turkeys (whole only). We also raise two to four pigs annually, entirely on pasture. Purchase eggs, poultry and pork via our online store. Our chickens are processed twice a year, turkeys once a year and pork once a year. To ensure you get the cuts you want, email motherearthfarmpa@gmail.com and we can make sure to notify you as soon as they become available.

Chicken: All of our birds are raised with care from start to finish in an environment that allows them to simply "be chickens." The birds are raised on pasture in a movable pen at the farm which allows them to forage on fresh grass and enjoy the sunshine. The birds are processed and packaged by us on site, by hand, as humanely as possible.

Turkey: We raise a very small flock of turkeys each year (under 25), ready in time for Thanksgiving. Our turkeys are given free range access to the wooded acreage around our home allowing them to hunt for insects and forage for vegetation. Similar to our chickens, we raise our turkeys with care from day one of their life and process and package them on site, as humanely as possible.

Pork: Our pigs are raised on pasture with plenty of space to roam and root. In addition to the vegetation available for foraging, they are fed organic vegetable scraps from our farm, supplemented by locally sourced non-GMO grain and apple finished thanks to the abundance of apple trees surrounding their pasture. The pigs are processed by a local USDA certified butcher.

Eggs: Our egg-laying chickens are pasture raised and handled humanely from day one. We hatch our own eggs when we need to replenish our flock. In addition to what they forage, our chickens are fed a locally grown and milled non-GMO grain.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. What does ‘pasture raised’ mean?
A1. Our meat chickens are raised in an enclosed, open air space that is moved every day. This gives our birds fresh ground to scratch at, increasing the amount of their diet that comes from natural foraging. Fresh grass also provides a clean, dry, area for our birds to grow while eliminating potentially harmful pathogens that build up in the soil. Pasture raised poultry requires a little more effort but the results are healthier, happier birds. Our turkeys are allowed to free-range during the day with a dedicated shelter at night. Our pigs are raised entirely on pasture from the day we get them.

Q2. Are they organic?
A2. No. However, our chickens, turkeys and pigs are fed a locally sourced non-GMO feed, which means their diet is sourced entirely from naturally raised plants. We also maximize the amount of "natural" food in their diet by encouraging foraging and feeding them vegetables from the farm that weren’t suitable for selling.

Q3. When are the poultry and pork offered?
A3. As long as they’re in stock, you can purchase them anytime online. However, we raise multiple flocks throughout the year with chickens generally available in June and October and pigs and turkeys available in October/November (before Thanksgiving). We’ll communicate to our email lists and via social media when our stock has been updated. Email us today to get on our list!

Q4. I’d like to buy many birds at once, how long do they last?
A4. Our whole birds are hand-packaged in BPA-free freezer bags that maintain excellent quality up to 12 months in the freezer. Parts (breasts, leg quarters and wings) are packaged in butcher paper & maintain their quality for 9-12 months.

Q5. When can I purchase eggs?
Our hens lay year-round with production ramping up in April and staying strong through October. Our online store will contain the most up to date information about what we have in stock.
