Chickens: All of our birds are raised with care from start to finish in an environment that allows them to simply "be chickens." The birds are raised on pasture in a movable pen at the farm which allows them to forage on fresh grass and enjoy the sunshine. The birds are processed and packaged by us on site, by hand, as humanely as possible.

Turkeys: We raise a very small flock of turkeys each year (under 25), ready in time for Thanksgiving. Our turkeys are given free range access to the wooded acreage around our home allowing them to hunt for insects and forage for vegetation. Similar to our chickens, we raise our turkeys with care from day one of their life and process and package them on site, as humanely as possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. What does ‘pasture raised’ mean?
A1. Our birds are raised in an enclosed, open air space that is moved every day. This gives our birds fresh ground to scratch at, increasing the amount of their diet that comes from natural foraging. Fresh grass also provides a clean, dry, area for our birds to grow while eliminating potentially harmful pathogens that build up in the soil. Pasture raised poultry requires a little more effort but the results are healthier, happier birds.

Q2. Are they organic?
A2. No. However, our chickens and turkeys are fed a locally sourced non-GMO feed, which means their diet is sourced entirely from naturally raised plants. We also maximize the amount of "natural" food in their diet by encouraging foraging and feeding them vegetables from the farm that didn't quite make it into a Farm-to-Table share.

Q3. When are they offered?
A3. We raise multiple flocks throughout the year with chickens generally available in June and October and turkeys available in November (before Thanksgiving). We’ll communicate to our members and via social media when the next offering is available.

Q4. I’d like to buy many birds at once, how long do they last?
A4. Our whole birds are hand-packaged in BPA-free freezer bags that maintain excellent quality up to 12 months in the freezer. Parts (breasts, leg quarters and wings) are packaged in butcher paper & maintain their quality for 9-12 months.

Q5. Do I have to be a member to purchase?
A5. No, anyone interested can purchase our chickens with convenient pick-up locations at the farm (4420 Warren Rd, Indiana, PA) or via delivery to Pittsburgh (limited locations). See our order form or contact us for more details.
